Answer
Allah Almighty has explicitly and unequivocally forbidden pork in multiple verses of the Qur’an, including His statement:
“He has only forbidden to you dead animals,[60] blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allāh.”
Allah does not forbid anything except for its inherent harm, even if this is not apparent to some.
Islam does not discourage inquiry into the wisdom behind this prohibition; rather, it encourages reflection and contemplation. Therefore, we shall present some rational and medical reasons that underpin this divine injunction.
Modern studies have conclusively demonstrated that pork harbors numerous significant health hazards, chief among them:
Its role as a perilous vector for diseases and parasites,
such as the tapeworm (Taenia solium), one of the most dangerous parasites residing in the human intestine,
and Trichinella, a worm responsible for fatal muscular diseases.
Pigs are susceptible to a myriad of diseases that easily transmit to humans, and that is due to their consumption of filth and waste.
Pork is also laden with highly detrimental fats, being exceedingly rich in saturated fats and harmful cholesterol.
Consequently, it significantly elevates the risk of developing heart diseases, strokes, diabetes, and chronic obesity.
The composition of pork meat and blood creates a fertile environment for viruses and bacteria. It has been proven that its flesh decomposes rapidly and attracts toxins more readily than the meat of other animals.
Compounding the danger, even when cooked at high temperatures, pork does not readily eliminate all parasites.
The pig is inherently a filthy creature, both in its nature and diet, as it indiscriminately consumes carrion, filth, and even animal excrement.
Many in the West openly acknowledge the pig’s repugnant behavior as instinctively abhorrent, and only a few dare to keep it as a domestic animal.
It is important to highlight that the prohibition of pork is mentioned in all the Abrahamic faiths, including original Judaism and Christianity, underscoring a profound and intrinsic rationale behind this interdiction.
Consuming pork has a profound impact on one’s morals and behavior, for physical purity cannot be separated from moral purity.
The pig, by nature, lacks any sense of jealousy, accepting mating indiscriminately between its females and males of other pigs. Some scholars have noted that frequent consumption of pork weakens one’s inherent sense of jealousy.
Some divine legislations may be beyond our full understanding, yet they serve as a test of obedience to God:
(But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muḥammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in [full, willing] submission.﴿ (An-Nisa: 65).
A true believer submits to God’s command, for God alone knows what best serves His servants.
Islam forbids the consumption of pork for profound religious, health, psychological, and moral reasons. This prohibition serves as a safeguard, shielding humanity from harm that may only become apparent after many years.
The prohibition stands as a testament to Allah’s mercy upon His servants, for He is the Creator of mankind and knows best what corrupts and what benefits them.
