The Trial of the Dajjal: When Falsehood Dresses in the Garb of Truth

The trial of the Dajjal represents one of the greatest tests humanity will ever face, for it is not based on mere coercion, but on the inversion of values and the beautification of falsehood until it appears as truth.

Despite being one-eyed and outwardly defective, he possesses means of deception and allure through which he confuses perceptions and shakes hearts, leading astray those whom God has not protected with insight and faith.

He begins with claims and enticements, accompanied by extraordinary signs and abilities that mislead weak hearts; he shows people what resembles life and provision, and hints at security and power, until truth and falsehood become indistinguishable in their eyes, and they assume he is the source of benefit and harm.

The Prophet ﷺ warned strongly against his trial, because it appeals to desires before reason, and gradually leads souls before confronting them directly; it enters through admiration, then justification, until it ends in submission and surrender.

This same mechanism repeats itself in all forms of tribulation throughout history: falsehood is wrapped in the glitter of power and the shine of achievement, attracting people to it, while they forget the essence of monotheism and the true scale of truth. Gradually, certainties are questioned, standards are redefined, and what is right and wrong is inverted in people’s hearts.

With the accumulation of justifications, the authority of truth weakens within the soul, and desire takes control, leaving only those whom God has firmly established upon clear insight.

When the trial finally passes, God’s unchanging law becomes evident: “As for the foam, it vanishes, cast off; but as for that which benefits people, it remains on the earth. Thus does Allah set forth parables” (Qur’an 13:17). Falsehood fades even if it adorns itself with countless forms of beauty, while truth remains even if abandoned by people.

Blessed are those who remember and are not overcome by heedlessness, who hold fast to reality and are not deceived by its glitter, and whose hearts remain firm upon certainty, repeating: “There is no life except the life of the Hereafter.” They make it their measure in times of trial and their light in darkness, until they meet God with pure hearts and steadfast steps.

O Allah, we ask You for Your Great bounty.
