A Nation’s Glory Is Not Measured by a Match

We are not a nation whose victories are measured by the result of a match.
Nations do not build their glory around an inflated piece of leather, nor is their dignity measured by a fleeting kick or the whistle of a referee.

When all eyes are drawn to the result and emotions are consumed by it, that in itself is a distraction whose place in our lives we ought to reconsider.

The matches will end.
The stands will empty.
The screens will turn to another event.

But the reality of the Ummah will remain as it is, with its heavy burdens and accumulated suffering. It awaits awareness, not cheering; action, not chanting; and genuine acts of heroism in arenas where the outcome is not decided in ninety minutes.

We ask Allah to bring the day when the achievements of the Egyptians, and those of all the peoples of our Ummah, are recognized in accordance with their honored identity—not under the label “the Pharaohs,” nor under similar names by which Muslim peoples are attributed to identities other than their Islamic identity.
